Bexleyheath is a large town in south east London. Before the expansion of London County Council, Bexleyheath was originally part of Kent.
Two hundred years ago, Bexleyheath comprised an area of scrub lands with few buildings. In 1959, architect Philip Webb, designed Red House for the artist, reforming designer and socialist William Morris in Bexleyheath. Red House forms an early essay in a romantically massed non-historical brick and tile domestic vernacular style. It has diverse windows and extravagant stairway. The National Trust acquired the house in 2003.
Bexleyheath has a large number of shopping centers, like The Mall Bexleyheath, formerly The Broadway Center and an ASDA supermarket opened in 1988. The Mall gave the center a more modern look.
Kate Bush, the critically acclaimed singer and song writer was born in Bexleyheath.
